RUN YOUR CODE AT SEA
Send your code to our kelp nursery, oyster farm, weather station, and our tall ship, Wonder.
Or build and deploy your own science buoy and help us gather more data on the ocean.
Plot Your Voyage
From just getting started with Python and Raspberry Pi to advanced hardware design and AI, Ocean Pi has projects for all experience levels.
Send An Image To Sea
Design a personalized image on the Sense HAT’s LED array and send it to our ship for our sailors to see as they go about their duties. This is a duplicate version of Astro Pi’s “Mission Zero,” and is a great project for beginners or elementary school children.
Animate Your Creature
This extends the “Send An Image To Sea” project by utilizing the motion sensors on the Sense HAT. Use the gyroscope to animate your creature using the ship’s motion, creating a custom GIF that we send back to you after your code runs on Wonder.
Guess Our Ship’s Location
Utilize data about the water and atmosphere from our research vessel, Wonder, to guess which water body the boat is in. For an extra challenge, you can take a stab at a Lat/Lon position. Your code will run for 15 seconds on the ship and can utilize all sensors and cameras.
Build Your Own Hardware
Do you want to deploy your own oceanography buoy? Install your own weather station? We are sharing the blueprints, supply lists, and software from our installations and creating tutorials to help you build your own version of our gear. You might even figure out a better way to build something (please tell us!).
Subscribe for project updates
We endeavor to share regular (at least weekly) updates on the Ocean Pi project via Substack.
